Caveat emptor again. The artwork for the title is for the David Raeburn translation (Penguin edition); after completing the purchase and seeing the 'invoice' it turns out the translation is by Henry Riley (who?), and the download is certainly Riley and certainly not Raeburn. Bleccch.

Amazon, you astonish me! Asking for stars, for ratings, for a set of narratives that have lasted over 2,000 years! Not good enough for the flash fiction folk, what?OK, This is a book worthy of anyone wishing to understand 2000 years of images that have scrolled down through all the arts in any culture where there existed ancient Greek influences, or Roman, or... in the West-- like learning new code if you've never been there yet.

This tale has survived for centuries, on very good ideas and good translations.

The translation fail to interest the readers. Structure is inflexible. Don't even know what I am reading. Sad case. Sigh.

If you're buying this for Philosophy 101, then you're probably doing that out of resentment. If you're buying this for personal - then it's worth the read. Great things to be found inside.
